US: Article On The Designer Published Saturday, October 11, 2003, Clinton Herald When Brad Weltzin started his employment at the Clinton Herald as a graphic designer in the production department five years ago, the newspaper was beginning its transition from a traditional paste-up production to going completely digital with full pagination. That change brought with it a complete change in The Herald's computer system and just this year the newspaper upgraded its current system. Brad had a big hand in all of those changes in the production department from computer installation to adding software and software updates. Besides doing pagination of advertising and pages and doing graphic design for The Herald, Weltzin also serves as a computer maintenance manager. Brad is the person every department seems to rely on when there is a computer break down. He says there hasn't been too many breakdowns that he hasn't been able to work through and says he sometimes learns as he goes. Brad, a Clinton native and 1993 graduate of Clinton High School, has an Associate Degree from Clinton Community College and earned a B.A. degree in Computer Science, with an emphasis in software engineering and web design from University of Northern Iowa. Weltzin also works on The Herald's web site and last year he began a home business, W3 Graphic and Web Design, to create web pages for local and area businesses. In May of this year Brad was named Employee of the Month at The Herald. He and his wife Jennie have a two year old son Ian. Brad says he used to do some drawing and some song writing for hobbies, but he still finds time to enjoy playing music on his guitar.
